We are a small Restorative Practices and Arts charity based in Shetland, Orkney and Edinburgh. We offer face to face and online meetings and can work with anyone of any age anywhere in Scotland.

We are managed by a board of trustees who are volunteers. Our board always includes former clients of our service - people harmed through crime.

Our work

Preventative work

This strand of our work helps prevent a crime or harm from happening or being repeated.

Help or Harm?

An Anger Management course in eight sessions created to enable participants to gain a better understanding of their relationship with anger.

What Have I Done?

A Victim Empathy course in four themed modules designed to encourage empathy in people who have committed a crime or harm.

Restorative Circles

A restorative circle is a respectful opportunity for people to talk through honestly behaviour that has affected a particular community. The circle creates an environment where everyone is equal and has the same opportunity as everyone else to speak and to be heard.

Tailormade groups and courses

This has included work with women who have touched the justice system through our Phenomenal Women's group and work with groups of young people.

Casework

This is after a crime or harm has happened.

Space2face uses a process called Restorative Justice to work with everyone affected by a criminal or non-criminal harm. This includes the person who has caused the harm as well as the people affected by it.

Sometimes this means participants will meet the other person in a safe facilitated meeting with our trained practitioners. BUT it doesn't have to - we can also facilitate dialogue in other ways such as thorough a letter, artwork or video.

We work with

  • People harmed through crime or conflict

  • People who have committed a crime or harmed someone

  • People who would like to participate in our preventative work

  • Individuals or organisations who would like to be trained in restorative practices

We recognise that everyone affected by crime and harm has experienced trauma of some kind - we acknowledge this when working with people and always work at the participant's pace.

Training & Advocacy

We run training courses in Restorative Practices. We also advocate for the use of Restorative Practices, especially in combination with the arts.

We run three courses in Restorative Practices of different lengths that are suitable for individuals, teams, schools and other workplaces - as professional development, or as a lifeskill.

Schools work

We offer a range of training and professional development options for school staff and students. These can either be the first steps towards creating a restorative school or as ongoing and refresher training for those that are already implementing restorative practices within the school community.

We also tailor courses to fit your specific requirements - please get in touch.
